NEWSSTAND VALIANT

VALIANT COMICS NEWSSTAND SALES EDITIONS

From approximately February 1995 to May 1996 Valiant Comics, under the ownership of Acclaim Entertainment, experimented with newsstand distribution on select comic book titles. Direct Sales editions were distributed to comic book stores on a non-returnable basis. Newsstand editions were sold at other outlets (newsstands, magazine racks, bookstores, discount stores, etc.) and unsold copies were eligible to return for credit. With a few exceptions, the only difference was the UPC barcode. Direct market editions would say "Direct Sales" while newsstand copies would say "Newsstand Sales" on the UPC Barcode. In some cases, a few titles had price differences and or cover stock differences compared to their direct market counterparts. Over the years members of the ValiantFans.com message board compiled a list of known newsstand editions and reported their findings in this thread here.
There have been 103 different newsstand editions discovered from the Valiant Universe line of comics which are presented here in this checklist and gallery. During this timeframe, Acclaim also published newsstand versions from their Magic the Gathering titles, and discoveries continue to be made.
